The Senate met at 6 p.m.
(Senator Tomblin, Mr. President, in the Chair.)
Prayer was offered by the Honorable Steve Harrison, a senator
from the eighth district.
Pending the reading of the Journal of Tuesday, March 14, 2006,
On motion of Senator Love, the Journal was approved and the
further reading thereof dispensed with.
The Senate proceeded to the third order of business.
Executive Communications
The Clerk then presented communications from His Excellency,
the Governor, advising that on March 13, 2006, he had approved Enr.
House Bill No. 4019, Enr. Committee Substitute for House Bill No.
4047 and Enr. Committee Substitute for House Bill No. 4063; and on
March 14, 2006, he had approved Enr. Committee Substitute for
Senate Bill No. 114 and Enr. Senate Bill No. 627.
The Senate proceeded to the twelfth order of business.
Remarks were made by Senators Boley and Helmick.
The Senate next proceeded to the thirteenth order of business.
Senator Facemyer called attention to today being the birthday of the senator from Logan and on behalf of the Senate extended
felicitations and good wishes to Senator Tomblin (Mr. President),
with Senator Sharpe leading the members in singing "Happy
Birthday".
Senator Bailey then moved that the Senate adjourn until
tomorrow, Thursday, March 16, 2006, at 11 a.m.
The question being on the adoption of Senator Bailey's motion,
and on this question, Senator Bailey demanded the yeas and nays.
The roll being taken, the yeas were: Bailey, Boley, Bowman,
Caruth, Deem, Dempsey, Edgell, Facemyer, Fanning, Foster, Guills,
Helmick, Jenkins, Kessler, Love, McCabe, Minard, Minear, Plymale,
Prezioso, Sharpe, Weeks, White and Tomblin (Mr. President)--24.
The nays were: Harrison, Hunter, McKenzie, Oliverio, Sprouse,
Unger and Yoder--7.
Absent: Barnes, Chafin and Lanham--3.
So, a majority of those present and voting having voted in the
affirmative, the President declared Senator Bailey's motion had
prevailed.
In accordance with the foregoing motion, the Senate adjourned
until tomorrow, Thursday, March 16, 2006, at 11 a.m.
